Dr Rasheedat Mahamood

Dr Rasheedat Mahamood joined Northumbria University in November 2023 as a Vice Chancellor Fellow- Assistant Professor in Mechanical and Construction Engineering. Prior to joining Northumbria University, Dr Mahamood was an Associate Professor in the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria. She is a visiting Senior Research Associate at Department of Mechanical Engineering Science, University of Johannesburg. Johannesburg, South Africa.

Dr Mahamood completed her PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the Department of Mechanical Engineering Science, University of Johannesburg, Johannesburg, South Africa in June 2014. She obtained her MEng from Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria in 2006 and her BEng (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Federal University of Technology Minna, Minna, Nigeria in 1998.

Her research interests is in Advanced Manufacturing technology such as Additive Manufacturing/3D Printing, Laser and Friction Stir Welding , development and characterisation of advanced composite and functionally graded materials for Biomedical and aerospace application, and Renewable energy. She has more than 100 publications which includes Books, Book Chapters, international refereed journals, and international conference articles. She is a production Editor of Nigeria Journal of Technological Development and a reviewer to many high impact Journals.  She won best paper Awards in two international conferences in UK and USA in 2012. She won Schlumberger Faculty for the Future Fellowship in 2012. She won L’Oreal UNESCO for Women in Science Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2015 and in 2018, she won a prestigious University of Johannesburg Research Excellence Award.

Dr Mahamood is registered with Professional bodies that includes: South Africa Institution of Mechanical Engineers (SAiMeCHE), NiMeCHE, Nigerian Society of Engineers and APWEN.
